Pupils at St Cuthberts Primary School in Cardiff Bay were pleased to welcome Cardiff Blues and Wales Prop John Yapp to their school recently when they were given a challenging lesson in health and safety.
Cardiff-based Opco Construction visited the school to challenge pupils with the message of the importance of health and safety. Pupils were challenged to design a poster that captures the essence of safety on-site which will be displayed on Opco and George Wimpey sites across south Wales.
One winner from each of the three categories catering for different age groups was presented with a framed picture of their own poster by Cardiff Blues star John Yapp and representatives of Opco and George Wimpey.
Nigel Coulter of Opco said: This competition has provided a great opportunity for the pupils at St Cuthberts to feel part of the development that is going on around them while learning about health and safety at the same time. Its also a fantastic way for us to interact with the community in which we are building and allows the children to show off their creativity. Weve been thoroughly impressed by all the entries we now know where to come if we ever need to employ designers!
Rosaleen Thomas at St Cuthberts Primary School, said: The children have been really excited by this competition and it has given them the opportunity to demonstrate their creative talents. When the winners see their poster designs on sites across south Wales they will feel really proud.
