Head Coach Danny Wilson has called on his Cardiff Blues to use the 'winning feeling' as a springboard for success over the coming weeks after they defeated high flying Connacht Rugby.
Cardiff Blues rocked then league leaders Connacht with a 20-16 victory at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night.
Wilson was thrilled with the application and determination of his squad to chalk up a vital win and now wants that to be channelled the right way with a French European double-header with Montpellier before the Welsh derbies over the festive season.
“The most important thing is this result pulls the squad together. It’s that winning feeling,” he said.
“We are not coming into work on a Monday and debriefing another loss. That can be a negative cycle which we have been in, although we know we have been competitive in most of our games.
“This is only out third league game at home this season. We have got to build on this by gelling from this win, become closer as a group.
“We work hard in the week, as coaches and players, and when you do get a win you have to cherish it and build on it. Confidence is the key word. With a win we can build some confidence.”
Looking ahead to the Montpellier clash in the European Rugby Challenge Cup next Friday, Wilson added: “It’s a big test as Montpellier are full of quality international players, right through their squad.
“They have spent a huge amount of money assembling that squad so whatever team comes here we know it is going to be a good side.
“What we saw against Harlequins was a bit of a drop off late in the game, but early on they showed what they are capable of.
“Whatever team they put out it will be full of household names and star studded names and it is a great challenge to play that opposition home and away in the coming weeks.
“On top of that we also have the Welsh derbies to build towards, it is on the horizon and we start to look towards that too.”
