Danny Wilson has expressed his pride following Cardiff Blues fought to a Guinness PRO12 draw in Ulster.
The Blues could have claimed a famous win at the Kingspan Stadium following a first-half Sa Warburton try and a brace from man-of-the-match Rey Lee-Lo but Ulster hit-back late through Luke Marshall.
Wilson admits it was disappointing to share the spoils but he was delighted with his side’s performance following their European Challenge Cup exit.
He said: “Ulster is a tough place to play, especially on the back of a short turnaround from Gloucester, our third away game on the bounce and we’ve done ourselves proud.
“The boys put in a huge shift, especially in our attacking game which was superb. We tried to play a high possession game and to keep the ball away from them and it caused them major problems.
“That attacking rugby has been there for the last three games, we’ve played some great rugby and are certainly a threat with the ball but we have to get better without it.
“It’s disappointing that we haven’t picked up a win. It would have been a famous away win against a full-loaded Ulster team, full of internationals but what is pleasing is a young bench, and especially a very young front row, has come on and added and kept us in the fight.”
The draw keeps Wales’ Capital Region in the fight for a play-off spot, which could offer qualification for the European Champions Cup next season.
They face the Ospreys at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, in Judgement Day V and will now monitor injuries to Blaine Scully, George Earle, Sam Warburton and Taufa’ao Filise closely.
Wilson added: “We have a number of injuries which we will have to look at and they will be difficult to put right in a week but we will see where we are and look forward to a big game in the stadium.”
