Head Coach Danny Wilson has challenged his Cardiff Blues to build on the momentum of recent months and show what they are capable of during the upcoming 6 Nations period.
Cardiff Blues will be without nine players to international duty with Wales when they face Edinburgh Rugby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 5.15pm).
However, Wilson has urged his squad to step up the challenge as they look to maintain an impressive home record in the Guinness PRO12 this season.
“Both teams have had international call-ups and we have laid the challenge down this week to the players to keep up our good run of form,” he said.
“We’ve had a seven game run of good performances, bar half a game away at Harlequins. In those seven games we have played well and lost two away to big sides in England and France.
“It is up to this group now to replace the internationals and show what they are capable of if we are to maintain the home win rate.
“Individually as well they need to show what they are capable of and the way they have trained this week has been encouraging and they are keen to do that.”
Wilson also insists he is focussed on performances and not looking at league table permutations with seven home games left this season.
“Our targets are the same as at start of season – this is year one of long-term process,” he said.
“We’ve slowly changed the environment and results; we are seeing the fruits of our labor. Results have improved after a hard run away from home at the start of the season.
“Performance is key and results will come. There are no set goals in terms of league position. This is about improving every week and if we do that we will have the chance to climb the league.”
