After a man of the match display in the final Under-20 Six Nations match of the campaign, Efan Daniel believes Wales' victory over Scotland can be used as a springboard ahead of next season.
Ioan Cunningham’s squad, led by Daniel’s club team-mate Alex Mann, contained a number of players featuring in their first year of under-20 rugby. The Six Nations campaign, which was held entirely at Cardiff Arms Park, saw Wales clinch victories over Italy and Scotland but suffered defeats to Ireland, France and eventual champions, England.
However, Daniel was left proud of his side’s efforts over the last few weeks and was delighted to see them rewarded with a final day win, despite being reduced to 14 men.
“We worked all week and the boys and the boys really pulled their socks up for this. I’m really proud of them all,” said the Cardiff academy hooker.
“We deserved nothing less than a win. We’re a really tight group, we worked for each other and came away with what we wanted.
“Everyone will tell you that we’re a tight group and that’s what pulled us through.
“We had great spirit, great heart and we dug in and gritted it out. That makes us tight and gives us that edge heading into next season.
“I was just proud of all the boys and full credit to them. They’re a great bunch.
“This will give us brilliant confidence and gives us a lot of positives heading into next season.
“A few of the boys will now go off to play some senior rugby, bringing on their game individually and as a team and we’ll come back stronger.”
