Vale's rural rugby stars of the future

13th February 2013

Just a few miles from where the Blues train at the Vale Resort, the next generation of rugby stars have been starring in the latest Vale of Glamorgan primary schools tag rugby festival.

Any Blues coaches enjoying an afternoon off would have been treated to a feast of rugby at St David’s C/W Primary School in Colwinston, with plenty of skills, thrills and sidesteps that even George North would have been proud of.

Once every half term, boys and girls from schools across the rural Vale of Glamorgan come together to play in a tag rugby festival. The festivals were established eight years ago by a group of teachers including Duncan Mottram from St Andrew’s Major C/W Primary School and the event has grown into a firm fixture on the local rugby calendar.

Fast forward ten years from now and who knows, some of these youngsters could even be following in the footsteps of other local boys Lloyd Williams and Josh Navidi into the Blues and Welsh set-up.
