Under 16 Blues South notch up 8th victory of season

Sunday 11th December 2011 – Cardiff International Athletics Stadium Leckwith

On a miserable afternoon at Cardiff International Athletics Stadium, Leckwith, the gloom was lifted by some spectacular running rugby from the Blues youngsters. An early break from full back Lewis Kirk set up Charlie Hall to run in for a try after just two minutes on the clock.

Rugby Gogledd Cymru 1404 responded with a positive attack into Blues territory and were rewarded with a penalty that fly half Joe Williams duly converted. The Blues then dominated the rest of the half with center Teri Gee scoring a brace, prop Joshua Thomas powering his way over the try line and back row Matthew Allen getting a well deserved score after an industrious performance. Blues outside half Callum Sheedy was again on form controlling the Blues attacks and getting three conversions.

The second half was a much tighter affair than the first half with the RGC defence much more resilient. However the North Wales side rarely troubled the Blues try line and further tries from Replacement hooker Sean Cooper and Fly Half Callum Sheedy saw the Blues run out comfortable 46 points to 3 winners.

The Blues South now sit top of the table with 8 wins from 8 games.

After the match Backs Coach, Scott Sneddon said, “While there are still elements of game that need some attention, with a 46 – 3 score line its hard not to be pleased. We challenged the players and set goals for this game in particular and the players delivered. The game has proved we have a strong squad and competition for places is getting more intense.”
