Thomas hoping for bumper Cardiff crowd

First Team News | 26th April 2024

Centre Ben Thomas is hopeful a large bumper Cardiff Arms Park crowd will turn out to cheer on the Blue and Blacks against Edinburgh tomorrow and say farewell to Cardiff’s departing players.

It is the final home game of the season at the Arms Park and Ellis Jenkins and Josh Turnbull are both retiring at the of the campaign, while Rhys Carre and Tomos Williams are moving on and Thomas believes it will be an emotional day.

“Hopefully we can get a good win tomorrow and a good crowd as well for a bit of send-off for the boys who are leaving,” said Thomas.

“There's a lot of boys who've put a lot in to the club leaving, so it's going to be an emotional day for those boys, but also for those who are seeing them go too.

“It'll be a different place next year, that's for sure. But, the main focus now is making sure we can send them off well.”

The Blue and Blacks enter the game on the back of a controversial defeat to Ulster last week at the Kingspan stadium.

“I think the hardest bit to take emotionally was the fact we've left the field and secured a win that we felt like we've been building towards for a long time and then to go either end of the field, get a yellow card and lose the game is a bit of a blow,” added Thomas.

“Even last week's game I know it was tough to watch for fans as well but I think throughout the 80 minutes we've given people a lot to smile about and come back the next week and I think that's shown, hopefully it'll show again this weekend, we've got a lot of people coming to watch us put on a bit of a performance.”
