Tal Selley Interview

2nd January 2008

We caught up with Tal Selley ahead of the match against Edinburgh this Friday.

You’ve been with us for a few months now, how are you enjoying life with the Blues?

I’m really enjoying it. It’s been a good move for me as I’m playing a lot more rugby and a lot more regularly. I’ve played in the centre and on the wing throughout my career, so I’m happy with the move. I’ve played most of my rugby at the centre and prefer playing there, but it’s a case of being happy to play anywhere as long as I’m getting on the pitch. That’s why I wanted to move - rather than sitting on the bench.

No regrets then?

I was a little bit worried about coming here, as it was another move for me, but the boys have made me feel really welcome. I’ve known a lot of them from age grade rugby and sevens tournaments, so no regrets at all.

You mentioned the sevens, is that a game you enjoy?

I love playing sevens, at the end of the day you’re playing for your country against top class competition and have trips around the world as well. I find that I’m quite suited to that game, it’s a bit more open which suites my style of play.

In sevens you visit a lot of places you wouldn’t in the 15 man game, where’s the most interesting place you’ve been to?

Everywhere we go, we train hard but they do try to show us a bit of the culture and sights in those countries which is nice. Players get to visit Hong Kong, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand but I’d have to say Dubai is the most unusual place I’ve visited.

Have you given any thought of what you will do after your playing days are over?

I gained a Computer Engineering Degree from Swansea University which I hope I can fall back on after my rugby career end. It was a challenge but something that I enjoyed and something I’d like to pursue in the future.
