Cardiff Rugby’s skill development centres will make a return this month, with bookings now open for the Pontypridd Schools catchment area.
After a host of promising under-14 players from Rhondda took part in the first block, a new six-week development programme for eligible players will be held once again at the University of South Wales’ Sports Park in Treforest, kicking off on Friday, November 12.
The club’s pathway system will link up with Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation to run the sessions, which are designed and overseen by Regional Age Grade Staff.
With next year’s Dewar Shield on the horizon, the programme aims to upskill and develop players through focused and targeted skill delivery, which is aligned with the professional region skills pathway.
With sessions held on a weekly basis between 4pm-5pm, the entire six-week block will be priced at £30 per player, which includes all administration fees as well as a Cardiff Rugby t-shirt.
The sessions are open for under-14 players (Year 9) in the Pontypridd Schools catchment area, which includes Pontypridd High School, Hawthorn High School, Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School, Y Pant Comprehensive School, Ysgol Garth Olwg, Ysgol Llanhari and Cardinal Newman RC School.
Blue and Blacks legends such as Martyn Williams and Gethin Jenkins, alongside current stars including Ellis Jenkins, Garyn Smith, Jarrod Evans and Dillon Lewis all came through the Pontypridd Schools system before establishing themselves in the first team at Cardiff Arms Park.
