Young Blues prop forward Scott Andrews has been named in the 33-man Wales squad to contest the 2010 Invesco Perpetual Autumn Series next month.

Young Blues prop forward Scott Andrews has been named in the 33-man Wales squad to contest the 2010 Invesco Perpetual Autumn Series next month.

The former Glamorgan Wanderers prop came through the Pontypridd Schools system and made his senior Blues debut against Ulster away in the Magners League in 2009.

Andrews was part of Wales’s Junior World Championship side that reached the last four of the inaugural tournament held in Wales in 2008 and captained the side against France and Italy in the 2009 Under 20’s six nations.

A former pupil at Y Pant Comprehensive School, Scott has been capped at Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 levels for Wales and captained his country in the Junior World Cup in Japan in June 2009.

Speaking at the Vale Resort training Centres, Scott said,

“To get the call up for the November squad is brilliant – I’m over the moon.”

“I trained with the Welsh squad a couple of months back, before they went to New Zealand and it was really good, really intense training.”

“I think every young Welsh player has a dream to play for their country, so hopefully I’ll get a chance to play this November, if not maybe in the near future.”

“I’m looking forward to training and hope it goes well. Nobody in the squad wants to be there just to make numbers up, and I’m no different, so I’m going to go there to give it my best shot.”

Speaking of his Blues form Scott added,

“I’ve had a couple of games at the start of the season and played pre season so that’s been pretty good.”

“My main objective really for the short term is to get as much game time for the Blues as possible and hopefully Wales will come later on as well’.

“In the past couple of games obviously we haven’t played to our best but we have picked up a couple of wins.”

“Obviously it was disappointing in Castres but we picked up a bonus point.”

“Hopefully I will be involved against the Scarlets whether I start or am on the bench.”

“I’d like to get some game time and hopefully that could put me in good stead for the autumn’.

“The Scarlets have gone well, they will be disappointed with the result on the weekend against Leicester, but they beat Perpignan the week before.”

“They’ve got a lot of youngsters like myself coming through and a lot of them are playing well. “

The nine other Blues players in the Wales squad are: Gethin Jenkins, John Yapp, Bradley Davies, Deiniol Jones, Sam Warburton, Martyn Williams, Richie Rees, Tom Shanklin and Leigh Halfpenny.
