Represent the famous Blue and Blacks as under-18 side return for second season

Women | 20th September 2022

Cardiff Rugby under-18’s women side are on the hunt for players to represent the famous Blue and Black jersey ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Following a successful debut campaign last season, where they topped the league table against their Welsh counterparts, the side will return later this year with talent identification days held throughout October.

As opposed to the round robin tournaments held last season, the new campaign will introduce fully fledged matches, taking on Ospreys, Scarlets, Dragons and RGC in either home or away matches in November.

The talent identification sessions are open to all, with participation encouraged as the coaches look to pick their side for the upcoming fixtures.

The initial sessions - open to girls in Year 12 and 13 - will take place over four weeks, held on Monday evenings (6-7.30pm) at Sardis Road, kicking off on October 3.

Team manager Kira Philpott said: “It’s a hugely exciting time to be involved in women’s rugby. It’s a massive year, with the World Cup approaching, and we’re very excited for the upcoming under-18 block after a success debut campaign last season.

“A handful of the girls will return this year, and I’m sure they’ll want to build on last year’s success.

“The fixtures will step up to the next level this year, and the experiences of going through a match week - both on and off the field - will be hugely benefitial for them in the future.

“We’ve already seen that these regional games have opened up opportunities for the girls to represent their country in the Six Nations, and we’re looking forward to seeing the next group of hopefuls.

“We urge anyone with an interest to come up to Sardis Road, join in the sessions and have a taste of what they can expect with Cardiff Rugby.”
