Attention has turned to openside flanker in the Guinness PRO14 Ultimate XV, with two Cardiff Blues and Wales legends included in the vote.
Former Championship dream team members are included in the shortlist, with Martyn Williams and Sam Warburton representing Wales’ Capital Region - and they need your vote to cement their place in the number seven jersey!
‘Nugget’ was named in the Cardiff Blues Ultimate XV earlier in the year, and was included in the PRO14’s Dream Team in consecutive seasons (2007/08; 2008/09).
Having initially moved to the Arms Park from Pontypridd in the pre-regional era, Williams was Cardiff Blues’ first ever captain.
‘Nugget’ soon established himself as one of the finest openside flankers in European rugby and wore the number seven jersey as Cardiff Blues claimed the EDF Energy Cup and the Amlin Cup.
On the international stage, the back row featured in three Rugby World Cup, reached a century of caps for Wales, went on three British and Irish Lions tours and won two Grand Slams with Wales, being named Player of the Tournament in the 2005 Six Nations.
Two years later, his successor in the seven jersey, Sam Warburton, was also awarded a place in the Championship’s finest XV, just months before leading Wales to the Rugby World Cup semi final.
‘Warby’ went on to have a glittering rugby CV, having skippered the British and Irish Lions on two tours and won multiple Grand Slams and Six Nations titles for Wales.
The back row established himself as one of the finest openside flankers in the world during his peak, and was a menace at the breakdown. He made his Cardiff Blues debut in 2008, having graduated from the academy, and came off the bench in the 2010 Amlin Cup final win. He would make his 100th appearance against Dragons on Boxing Day 2016.
Every vote counts, and with the likes of Justin Tipuric, John Barclay and Callum Gibbins also in the running, it's set to be a tight one! Make sure you vote for your Cardiff Blues heroes by heading over to http://doo.vote/pro14ultimatexv
