Playing at the Arms Park is always a class experience – Bowen

Tom Bowen called it a ‘class experience’ to run out for the Blue and Blacks in front of a packed Cardiff Arms Park.

The young winger dazzled supporters with his pace and footwork, and scored two electric tries.

He was however disappointed Cardiff weren’t able to get over the line against a Sharks side packed full of South African internationals and World Cup winners.

“I think playing at the Arms Park is always a class experience and I think just running out with these boys at the Arms Park is class,” said Bowen.

“To play against a couple of World Cup winners as well was probably the icing on the cake really but we’re just disappointing with the result tonight and not getting over the finishing line on the right side.

The 19-year-old has risen through the Cardiff ranks quickly, but hailed playing with the RFC, as well as his current teammates.

“I think just being 18, I think I came to the club and didn’t really know where I was going to be in a couple of months.

“Playing for the RFC has helped massively in Super Rugbi Cymru, but to be chucked in the deep end now, I’m enjoying it and it’s really good.

“Playing with the likes of Callum Sheedy, Rey, Jenno and Cam, they’ve all got a load of experience now and I think it just makes it a little bit easier.

After scoring his brace, Bowen is now targeting a regular spot in the Cardiff team, but pointed out there was plenty of competition.

“I think just trying to cement the place in the squad really. I haven’t been in much but hopefully I’ll get a starting shirt and push on.

“The group of boys we have got as well is a good competition and I think we can go far in the competition, so I’m really looking forward to the next couple of weeks.

Bowen will now join up with the Wales U20s squad with five other young Blue and Blacks for the forthcoming Six Nations championship with the opening match away in France.

“We should have some good chemistry to be honest, I’m really excited for the next couple of weeks,” said Bowen.

“The French, they’ll always be the same big boys who can chuck the ball about, so it’ll be a tough test out there, but another game to look forward to.”
