Cardiff Rugby were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Wales rugby great Tony ‘Charlie’ Faulkner on Thursday.
A member of the famous Pontypool front row, the 19-times capped prop was a key figure in Wales’ golden era of the 1970s and represented the British & Irish Lions in 1977.
After retirement, the two-times Grand Slam winner began a career in coaching and was a member of the Cardiff backroom team during the 1990s, alongside Alex Evans.
Paying tribute to Faulkner, Cardiff Life President, Peter Thomas, said: “Charlie was a special person and an inspirational character whose company you would always want to have.
“He joined the coaching team at Cardiff at the start of professional rugby as forwards coach working alongside Alex Evans and Terry Holmes. Charlie was an outstanding coach who knew the importance of performing at the highest level, having been part of the famous Pontypool, Wales and British and Irish Lions' front row.
“There is no doubt that Charlie will be sadly missed but never forgotten.”
Everyone at Cardiff send their deepest condolences to Charlie’s family and friends.
