There was good news for all junior rugby players and fans in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan this week as Black Horse has signed up for another 3 years of Capital Rugby sponsorship.
The unique sports coaching scheme began six years ago as a way of drawing under 11s into playing rugby and just last year expanded to include secondary schools and district clubs as well as primary schools. The Development Officers now visit at least 150 schools in the county and in May hundreds of pupils took part in a two day rugby festival at Cardiff Arms Park.
The last three seasons of sponsorship have really brought Black Horse into the public eye in the Welsh capital, said Black Horse corporate communications assistant Louise Hurley, Now we have a local management team specifically tasked with making a valuable contribution to the community, and supporting Capital Rugby for another 3 seasons couldnt be more in keeping with this aim.
The scheme goes straight to the grass roots and has built up a massive fund of goodwill in communities in both Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Chairman of Capital Rugby, Wales legend Gareth Edwards, was full of praise for the sponsorship that Black Horse is giving to Capital Rugby and commented, This is an exciting time for the game in Wales. It is imperative that we do all we can to promote the game and its values in both the schools and the clubs.
We can only achieve this with the continued support of our main sponsor Black Horse and the introduction of partnerships with the Welsh Rugby Union, Cardiff Blues and the unitary authorities of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
The further development of this scheme will ensure the promising and enthusiastic youngsters of today will not be lost to the game as there will be pathways from schools to clubs," he added.
