Llantwit Major RFC Mini & Junior Section hosted the first inter-schools competition at The Rec recently. The club invited local primary schools to bring teams to play each other. Four schools sent teams. St Illtyds Llantwit Major, Eagleswell Llantwit Major, Wick & Marcross & St Athan.
The teams all played each other in a round robin set of games. Wick were all conquering & won all three of their group matches. St Illtyds won two of their games & set up a final with Wick. St Athan & Eagleswell pushed each other hard & played a very entertaining B final, which resulted in a 3-3 draw.
St Illtyds gained revenge for their earlier pool defeat at the hands of Wick & went on to win the A final 2-0. To their credit Wick pushed ST Illtyds all the way & were unlicky not to cross the line on more than one occassion.
The afternoon was enjoyed by all & the club intend making the tournament an annual event. with more schools competing. Thanks must go to Mr Esmond of St illtyds, Mrs Morgans of Wick school, Mrs Harris of St Athan school & Mr Roberts of Eagleswell school. Also many thanks to referees gary Morgan Grant & Tim Jones & to all the parents from the four schools for their fantastic support & encouragement. The event was organised by Cardiff Blues Community Coach. Tim Jones.
