Jamie Hill is the latest homegrown talent to sign a new contract with Cardiff Rugby.

The scrum-half, who came through the club’s regional pathway, made his senior debut during the 2019-20 season and has amassed 12 first team outings.

His game time last season was severely limited due to an achilles injury but now back fit and focused on the season ahead, he is determined to hit the ground running with his home club.

He said: “I cannot put into words how grateful I am to be here. This is a club I owe so much to. They have given me everything I ever wanted.

“I have always wanted to play here and to be here after recent circumstances is something I am very grateful for.

“Last year was difficult at times but I believe it happened for a reason. It happened to test me, to test my character and it allowed we to work on the things I needed to.

“Now I am focused on the future and I cannot wait for the chance to pull on the jersey again and to run out at Cardiff Arms Park in front of those amazing supporters.

“It is an important season for me and also for us as a group. Matt Sherratt has obviously moved up to become head coach and he is someone I have worked closely with for a number of years.

“He is an unbelievable coach and I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. The detail he puts behind things is something I haven’t experienced before and he is great for young players.”

Hill will compete with the likes of Wales international Tomos Williams and fellow former Wales Under-20s International Ellis Bevan for the number nine jersey at the Arms Park.

Matt Sherratt said: “It’s great news for the club Jamie has re-signed.

“Jamie is a great professional and great person to have around the group. He’s shown great resilience to keep a positive mindset and come back from some frustrating injuries and I’m sure now with regular training and games he will be able to fulfil his potential”
