Iwan Stephens has been rewarded for his impressive first season at Cardiff with a new long-term contract.
The 24-year-old wing initially joined the Blue & Blacks on a one-year deal from Newcastle Falcons but quickly displayed his credentials.
Stephens scored two tries in four games, including a BKT Player of the Match performance against Ulster, before rupturing his ACL in training.
However, the club had already moved to secure Stephens’ long-term future with a new deal at the Arms Park.
He said: “I’m really excited to have signed a new deal with Cardiff. I have really enjoyed my time here so far.
“The staff and players have made me feel really welcome, right from day one and I can’t wait to get stuck into 2025-26.
“Obviously I am gutted that my season was cut short early but I loved pulling on the Blue and Black jersey and will back better than before to show everyone what I am capable of.”
Having previously impressed in the English Premiership with Newcastle Falcons, where he scored 11 tries in 25 appearances, made an instant impression at the Arms Park.
And head coach Matt Sherratt is delighted to retain his services at the Arms Park. He is the latest player to sign a new contract, following on from a host of homegrown stars including Ben Thomas, Cam Winnett, Liam Belcher and Teddy Williams.
Sherratt added: “We’ve been really impressed by Iwan since he joined the club. He is a great lad, who has a real hunger to learn and give his best for the club, and he has grasped his opportunity with both hands.
“He had a bit of a point to prove when he arrived and when given the opportunity put in a number of great performances. I have no doubt that he will come back ahead of next season with the same appetite to succeed.
“He is a Cardiff player, in terms of his playing style, and suits out attacking game. He is also brave and works incredibly hard off the ball.
“So I am delighted to keep him here at the club and it is something he thoroughly deserves.”
