Cardiff Blues chief executive Richard Holland has led the messages of congratulations after Sam Warburton was named Lions captain.
It was officially confirmed at noon that the Cardiff Blues flanker would led the famous Lions on a second successive tour – this time to New Zealand.
Warburton is just the second player to lead the Lions twice, the other being England’s World Cup-winning captain Martin Johnson.
Holland said: “First of all, everyone at Cardiff Blues would like to congratulate Sam on another important milestone in his career. All players, coaches, staff and fans at Cardiff Blues are immensely proud of Sam's achievements.
“Sam is not only a fantastic rugby player, but also an ambassador for Cardiff, Cardiff Blues, for his country and also for the game of rugby, and it comes as no surprise that he has been chosen to lead the Lions for a second time.
“Cardiff has a proud history of supplying players, and we're delighted to continue this tradition.
“We all wish Sam, Warren Gatland and the rest of the Lions contingent out in New Zealand all the very best for the tour.”
