Mark Hammett has this week jetted into Cardiff as he prepares to take on the role as the new Director of Rugby at the Blues later this year.
Hammett, who is currently Head Coach at the Hurricanes and will move to Blues at the end of the current Super 15 season, has been in the Welsh capital this week to meet staff, coaches and players.
Hammett – known in the rugby world as Hammer – also met the media at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park this afternoon to discuss his plans for the future of Blues and speak of his excitement over the next challenge in his career.
“I’m excited about coming here and can’t wait to get started,” said Hammett. “This first week here has been busy and about downloading a lot of information before I go back to New Zealand.
“Behind closed doors I will be having conversations about what is great and what’s not and what we need to do to move on.
“I’ll be judged on what we do moving forward. We need to take lessons from what’s has happened the last couple of years.
“I’m looking forward to working with Dale (McIntosh) and Paul (John) and creating passion on the field. It sounds like they have done a fantastic job.
“I go back and have a job to do with Hurricanes. People who know me know I will be doing everything I can for them to be successful the rest of this season. When I come to Blues this is my club and I want to bring success. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
A full interview with Hammer will appear this Friday on www.cardiffblues.com
