Cardiff Blues are re-launching a popular scheme, which has already helped raise thousands of pounds for secondary schools in the team's region in the past year.
The Regional Schools Scheme offers schools the chance to buy up to 200 match tickets for a nominated Cardiff Blues home game, at a discounted price of £400. The tickets are worth a minimum of £1000, and schools can choose whether the tickets are sold to pupils and parents as a fundraising activity, or distributed as competition prizes, achievement rewards or sold to staff, family and friends of the school.
To celebrate the launch of the this year’ scheme, Cardiff Blues are hosting a regional schools day at their home game against Connacht on September 30th, which kicks off at 7.05pm
Each primary and secondary school within the region is being invited to attend and able to claim complimentary community tickets for their pupils.
During last year’s schools ticketing scheme, more than £51,000 was raised by schools taking part. This was used to purchase new sports kits and equipment, as well as funding sports trips across the region.
Whitchurch High School sold the most tickets, and raised more than £5,000 for the school. The money was used to fund a trip of a lifetime to South Africa for the school’s under 14s rugby team in July.
Maths teacher Paul Hughes, who also coaches the rugby team, said: “The Cardiff Blues ticket scheme for schools is a fantastic and simple way to raise money.
“It was incredibly popular with pupils, parents and staff in the school – we sold the tickets for £5 for pupils and £12 for adults. The money we raised meant not only could we fund the trip to South Africa, we were also able to buy kit and equipment to take out to our twin school in a South African township.
“The staff at Cardiff Blues were also really helpful and made the whole process very simple. I’m already being asked for tickets for this season by pupils and parents, we’ll definitely be taking part again.”
Annabelle Harries, Cardiff Blues Marketing Officer, said: “This is a really effective way for schools to raise money for sports equipment and other activities, and it also encourages a great atmosphere at games, as pupils, parents and teachers come together to support Cardiff Blues.
“Everyone who comes along can also take advantage of the fantastic facilities at the new stadium, as well as entertainment before and after matches.”
