Future Blues, Sport.Cardiff and the ERC ran a special TAG Festival at Meadowlane Primary School, St Mellons last week.

Meadowlane, St Johns College, Oakfield and Willowbrook Primary Schools entered tag teams of children from ages 9-11 into the ‘Tag Festival’ with the theme promoting ‘fun and fair play’.

The schools had previously received 4 weeks of skills coaching from the Future Blues Community Coaches in preparation for the Festival and for many of the children this was their first experience of this exciting version of the game.

The Festival was attended by a very special guest….the European Heineken Cup itself! The trophy that will be presented to the winning team at this year’s Heineken Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff was making a flying visit to Wales to be on special display. The Meadow Lane participants were able to view and hold aloft one of the most sought after and hotly contested trophies in European Sport!

The Future Blues Community Coaches and Official Referees on the day Liam Scott and Obi Arabi awarded the ‘Fair Play Award’ for best Conduct, Team Work and Playing within the Spirit of Game, to Oakfield Primary School.

Sport.Cardiff also provided each participating school with a free set of Tag Rugby belts to assist with further development of rugby within their schools and to leave a lasting legacy of Cardiff being the 2005/6 host City of the Heineken Cup Final.
