Derby games remain biggest games of the season - Dacey

5th October 2016

Kristian Dacey is counting down the days until Friday's Guinness PRO12 clash against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium.

The fixture will be the first Welsh derby of the season, and the teams will head into the match with only two points separating them in the league table.

Hooker Dacey insists that the derby matches remain the biggest spectacle on the season’s calendar for the Welsh regions.

Dacey said: “Derby games are the biggest games of the year, and those are the ones you want to win. It’s great for the fans to get a derby this early in the season. We want people to enjoy the rugby again.

“These are the type of games you have to put your marker down. We go into it as a squad and we play for each other, not individually. Where better to get the win than at the Ospreys?”

Dacey and his teammates hope to carry their impressive early season form into Friday’s clash, having won four out of five league games so far this season.

But the Ospreys have also had an impressive start to the season, picking up three league victories, and Dacey is aware of the threat they could pose at the Liberty Stadium.

“It’s not going to be easy. It’s a tough place to go and we found that out the hard way last season. For us to get the win we’re going to have to be on our best.

“They’ve been good. They’ve had a few good wins, especially at home, and I think it’s going to be tough. The same as us, they’ve got a bit of strength in depth. Whatever team takes that field, it’s going to be a good battle.”
