Hooker Kristian Dacey is set to hand Cardiff Blues derby day boost and win his fitness race to face Newport Gwent Dragons on Boxing Day at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 2.05pm).
Dacey hobbled out of the second half of the 21-9 home win over Scarlets on Black Friday.
However, the highly-rated front row has made an impressive recovery and Director of Rugby Mark Hammett has revealed Dacey could now form part of the side to tackle the Dragons.
But back row Sam Warburton is set to miss the Guinness PRO12 encounter through a short-term injury.
“Kristian twisted his ankle but he has pulled up pretty well and he will be available,” said Hammer.
“He played well against Scarlets. He’s worked hard and Matthew Rees has worked hard alongside him to mentor and grow him in that position as well.
“Smiler (Rees) has helped a guy grow who a few years ago was playing loose forward. Now he is learning to love what it takes to be a front rower and that is scrummaging first.
“As a front rower one week you go well and the next you learn lessons. It happens like that for a few years. But he is getting better and better.
“Sam (Warburton) has had a bit of a stinger; but it should only be a week if he misses the game,” added Hammer.
“I would have managed him for one of these games with Dragons, but this gives us the opportunity.”
