Director of Rugby Phil Davies has confirmed that British & Irish Lions hero Alex Cuthbert is all set to return in the big RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Connacht this Friday night at Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 7.05pm).
Cuthbert was a key member of the victorious Lions squad that secured an historic Test series win over Australia in the summer.
The flying wing is now set to return to the Cardiff Blues line-up as the home side prepare for first ever league game on the new artificial surface at the Arms Park.
“Alex Cuthbert is back in which is great,” revealed Davies. “Hopefully he will add a buzz to the whole team. After watching the Sale game at home, and what we did at the weekend, hopefully people will be really positive about the game.
“It’s great to have Alex back and also Andries Pretorius which is important. Overall we are looking pretty healthy and Lou Reed is back too which is a big positive.
“The way the game went in Glasgow we were disappointed we didn’t win,” he added.
“But getting a point on the road is always valuable. It was frustrating not to see the game out because we played very well, but it was a consolation that we got a point.
“I was pleased with many aspects of our game, but there were a few areas that we have worked on this week.”
Davies also revealed his Blues were fired up for a first league outing on the new playing surface adding: “It looks fantastic and we all enjoyed the experience against Sale. It is going to be consistent for the season and we hope to perform well and use it to our advantage.
“We want to try and put a spectacle on every time we play. We will play with endeavour, heart and spirit.
“I thought our fans were terrific last year and we just need to get a few more wins on the board. We want that to start against Connacht on Friday night.”
