Cardiff Rugby under-17 will be in action later this evening as they welcome Ospreys to Cardiff Arms Park (KO 7.15pm).
Chadd Mutyambizi’s side head into the encounter on the back of a win over Bath a fortnight ago, with a number of last season’s under-16 stars involved in the matchday squad.
Callum Jones, Luke Jones and Rhys Emmott make up the back row while Cardiff North duo Ollie Rose and Dylan McDonald continue their partnership at lock. A front row of Jayden Meade, Charlie Manship and Isaac Godfrey complete the pack, with half backs Sion Davies and Tom Hughes slotting in behind.
Dewi Thomas wears the number 12 jersey alongside midfield partner Tom Bowen, who impressed at this level last summer.
Coleg y Cymoedd’s Dylan Scott is named on the wing, with Owen Francis and Merthyr’s Peter Richmond also featuring in the back three, but the Blue and Blacks are missing the likes of Steffan Emanuel and Kodie Stone, who are involved with the Wales under-18 side.
Owain Paskell – who remains eligible for the under-16 side for the upcoming season – is named on the bench alongside the likes of Robert Brew Davies, Iestyn Hutchings and Caden Thomas, who all impressed last season in the blue and black jersey.
Talent pathway manager, Aled James, said: “Once again we’re really enjoying this block with the under-17 group, and it’s an opportunity to focus on week-to-week improvements, as opposed to continually preparing to play.
“That emphasis on improvement is for individuals, units and as a group as a whole, and it’s a step that will help us form a track group with one eye on the make-up of the junior academy in the near future.
“It’s about giving these players a high quality service in both S&C and skill but also about exposing them to a professional academy environment and what might be expected at that level.
“We’re also looking at different initiatives to develop other areas of their game, such as how we implement a leadership group and share those responsibilities around a number of individuals.
“When matchday comes around, it’s always exciting and even more so to be able to play on the Arms Park pitch. However, our continued message is that it’s not about the results at age grade level, but more about the bigger picture and a long-term focus on the development.”
Entrance for this evening’s clash is priced at £3 for adults, but is also included with 22/23 Season Memberships – which are available now!.
Following Wednesday’s encounter, Cardiff will also welcome Scarlets to the capital on Monday.
