Cardiff Rugby under-17 recorded a comfortable victory over their Ospreys counterparts on a stunning evening of rugby at Cardiff Arms Park on Wednesday.
Following a win over Bath a fortnight ago, Chadd Mutyambizi’s side were back in action at the capital in the latest match of their summer series.
Slick hands along the backline paved way for the game’s opening try, as Owen Francis broke free on the right hand side. With the defenders closing in on his angle, the wing produced a wonderful offload to find outside centre Tom Bowen in support.
The number 13 still had plenty to do, but a fine step saw Bowen skip past the opposing full back to dot down for a memorable try.
Prop Isaac Godfrey powered over from short range shortly afterwards, but there was still time for the Blue and Blacks to add a third before break. Once again, smooth play from the backs saw the ball spread wide, and this time it was Bowen who provided Francis with the final pass for the wing to finish.
Cardiff picked up where they left off after the interval, with full back Peter Richmond this time providing the spark. The Merthyr product showed a combination of footwork and pace to beat three Ospreys defenders on the outside before sending scrum half Sion Davies on his way for the Blue and Blacks’ fourth.
Ospreys struck back for their first try of the evening, with Will Howells dotting down from the base of a driving line-out, but normal service resumed as the hosts produced another stunning score.
With a line-out on halfway, Owain Paskell arched his way through a gap in the Ospreys defence to make the initial break. The ball was shipped to Tom Hughes and Luke Jones, with the latter producing an audacious offload to put replacement Iestyn Hutchings clear.
Cardiff had the final word as Caden Thomas added a sixth for the hosts, who are now set to welcome Scarlets to Cardiff Arms Park on Monday (KO 7.00pm).
Entrance will be priced at £3 for adults, and is included with 22/23 Season Memberships – which are available to purchase now!
