Cardiff Rugby have continued securing talent of the future by signing Whitchurch High School pupil Fin Britton on an academy scholarship.
The year 11 student has come through the ranks of the A Licence school and Rhiwbina RFC, earning selection in Cardiff Schools’ Dewar Shield squads for the last three seasons.
He has now received a scholarship to support his education and rugby progression, following in the footsteps of Hawthorn High School’s Samson Philpott.
Cardiff Rugby Academy Manager Gruff Rees said: “It’s hugely important for us to provide great opportunities for young players to thrive in our pathway while enjoying excellent educational support. Whitchurch is a shining light in this with extensive A-level and BTEC support.
“Fin has been around the Dewar Shield programme a fair while, especially with the change in that format, and has received quality coaching through this programme alongside club and school commitments.
“He is a gifted outside half with a good skillset and will thrive with further support through our regional age grade and junior academy programmes.”
Whitchurch High School Head Teacher Nick John added: “We are all incredibly proud of the progress that Fin has made, having consistently demonstrated a passion for the sport and commitment to excellence, striking the right balance between school and his sporting endeavours.
“This scholarship offer marks a significant milestone for him and is testament to work that he has put in to develop his game over a considerable period of time.
“I would like to thank Cardiff Rugby for their positive engagement with the school and for the opportunities that they provide for our students. I would also like to thank everyone within our school community for the support that they give to our students daily with a view to helping them get to where they want to in life.
“We wish Finn every success and are looking forward to continuing to nurture and develop the talent within our school as part of our ongoing partnership with Cardiff Rugby.”
