Cardiff Rugby withdraw from Pentwyn plans.

First Team News | 15th February 2024

Cardiff Rugby can confirm the club have withdrawn from plans to redevelop Pentwyn Leisure Centre and have served notice to depart the facility at the end of May 2024.

It had been hoped that the site could be redeveloped by Cardiff Council, primarily delivering enhanced facilities for the community whilst also constructing a first class training centre for the club.

A long-term lease from the club would have funded the Cardiff Council led project with new employment opportunities, public facilities and community engagement programmes planned for the area.

However, following more than three years of negotiations to deliver the project, the decision has been taken by the club to pursue alternative options.

This is a disappointing outcome for the community in Pentwyn, an area faced with socioeconomic challenges, which would have undoubtedly benefitted from the development and the permanent presence of a professional sports team and Community Foundation.

The club remain grateful to Cardiff Council, GLL and the local community in Pentwyn for their welcome and support during the Covid-19 pandemic and the period since.

The club will now install a semi-permanent gym facility behind the north stand at Cardiff Arms Park, which aligns with the long-term vision to redevelop the entire site.
