Huggard Centre for the homeless provided invaluable support to Cardiff Blues recently when they helped move snow off the Arms Park pitch ahead of the Sale Sharks match
As a way of saying thank you Cardiff Blues players Bradley Davies and Sam Hobbs presented the charity with a signed shirt, which will be auctioned off at their charity quiz.
The quiz will take place in the Gareth Edwards Lounge on Saturday 23 February starting at 1pm, ahead of the Italy v Wales Six Nations match.
Speaking of the event, Cardiff Blues and Wales second row forward Bradley Davies said,
“Most people won’t be aware that a number of people from the Huggard Centre went out of their way to help clear the snow from the Arms Park pitch prior to the Cardiff Blues v Sale Sharks match after we had some heavy snowfall.”
“Without the help and hard work of the volunteers, alongside the Arms Park Staff and the Supporters Club, the pitch might not have been deemed playable and meant that the match would have had to been cancelled.
“ We are truly grateful for their support and we are glad to be able to donate a signed shirt from the squad as a token of our appreciation which will hopefully raise some much needed funds at their quiz.”
The Huggard Centre comprises of a Day Centre, Emergency Bed Unit and supported houses offering support and resettlement in the community.
Kevin Fitzgerland of Huggard added,
"I asked some of the service users from the Huggard if they were interested in helping out the Blues to clear the pitch and they jumped at the opportunity.
“As a Blues supporter I had an incentive for the game to go ahead, but the volunteers from the centre chose to venture into the terrible weather conditions with no incentive apart from supporting their local community.
“Everyone involved with the clear up that day did their community proud; it was wonderful to see everyone come together at a time of need and I felt especially proud that some of the Huggard service users were part of this.
“The Huggard Centre would like to thank Cardiff Blues for their kind generosity.
“The money raised at the event will help us keep developing the personal skills of Cardiff's homeless people.
“Allez Les Bleus"
