The last regional game of the season at Gwernyfed RFC, saw Cardiff Blues Girls U18's crowned WRU Regional Champions for the second year.
Cardiff Blues 73 Gogledd Cymru 10
Many of the girls had met each other at the end of last season, in what was a Blues victory by 76 points to 0.
The North Wales team hoped the encounter would be different, however, from the off, the Blues forwards had other thoughts in mind. With fast ball flowing to the backs, it was a clear road to the try line for Rebecca Wrigley to score her first of four tries of the game.
A few minutes later young Evie Jones made her dash to the line to score her first try of the season for the Blues and further rewards would soon follow.
The North challenged well, but to no avail and it was Wrigley who scored again in the 15th minute. Joanne Jones converted.
In the 18th minute mistakes were made in the Blues defence that saw stand in Gogledd player Cerys Ballett score in the far corner. This brought confidence to the visiting side but again the Blues won the ball and fed out wide to Evie Jones, who made no mistakes to score her second try.
Not to be out-done Wrigley decided it was time for her 3rd try and crossed the line under the posts bringing the score to 27-5 at half time.
Half Time Cardiff Blues 27 Gogledd Cymru 5
Within a minute of the second half, centre Gaby French crossed over for another Blues try.
Gogledd players stuck at it to give Ballett her second try of the match and take the score to 32-10. However, the Blues held tight and Gogledd failed in their attempt to cross over for a third.
Blues captain, Jo Jones, put in a cheeky chip down field and a bounce was kind which led powerhouse Bronnie Jones to take the ball and cross over for her first of two tries.
Further tries came the way of the Blues from Rebecca Wrigley, Megan Daley, Evie Jones and sister Bronnie Jones to take the game out of the North's reach.
With the score now at 61-10 the crowd settled for a truly outstanding final match of the season, however, the Blues players had a few surprises in store and continued to play fast running ball.
It was Blues stalwart Cerys Ballett who had the final score to bring the match to an end at 73-10.
Team Manager, Alan Roberts, said:
“This was a great swansong for some of the girls and it will be sad to see some of the girls leave the squad.”
“No doubt they will continue to play senior rugby either for their home clubs, region or national squads. The Blues Coaches wish them well.”
