Danny Wilson praised a number of excellent displays and the ‘outstanding’ contribution of wingers Tom James and Alex Cuthbert as Cardiff Blues defeated Rugby Calvisano 50-9 at the Peroni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
James scored a well-taken first half try to put Cardiff Blues on the way to a bonus point victory while Cuthbert produced an impressive display full of powerful runs and was unfortunate not to be rewarded with the score his display deserved.
“I thought a number of players were excellent. Credit to Tom James and Alex Cuthbert on the wings because I thought both were great and ran for us all day,” said Wilson
“I thought Alex was outstanding. His work rate to chase kicks and kick-offs, make tackles and find us field position.
“He showed his attacking ability one on one and his defensive work was good. Credit to him, it was a really good performance and hopefully that bodes well for the future.”
Wilson also praised the contribution of youngsters Dillon Lewis, who made his first start for the region, and fly half Jarrod Evans
“A number of players put in a good shift today and we got a bit of youth out there too which was pleasing to see,” he said.
“Dillon had his first start at tighthead and went well and Jarrod came off the bench and looked comfortable.
“It was a good mixture of youth and experience and hopefully something we can build on for the future.”
