Cardiff Blues won high praise at last night’s prestigious Rugby Expo Awards at Twickenham after being shortlisted for a top honour.
Blues were praised for the region’s innovative Shirt and Season Ticket Launch that featured an energetic flash mob in Cardiff city centre and starred back row ace Robin Copeland.
The video has become a youtube hit with over 16,000 views and saw shirt sales and Season Tickets soar ahead of the new campaign.
Blues were nominated in the Best Marketing Campaign category alongside ‘Aviva – Rugby matters’ and eventual winners the WRU, who were nominated for the ‘Our Land, Our Way’ campaign that featured Blues ace Leigh Halfpenny.
The Awards are among the highlights of this year’s Rugby Expo which has become established as a must-attend event for key figures in professional and grassroots rugby. High profile rugby players, administrators and media specialists took part in an exhaustive judging process.
Rhys Blumberg, Head of Sales and Marketing at Blues, said: “We were delighted to be shortlisted in such a strong category alongside two huge organisations and it was fantastic to hear such positive comments from the judges about the innovative approach we took.
“The Rugby Expo Awards are known to celebrate creativity, innovation and best practice in the world of rugby so to be such a big part of the night was a great achievement for Blues.”
