Blues in the Pink against Ulster

10th September 2008

The Cardiff Blues will be wearing their new pink shirts when they take on Ulster this Friday, 7.05pm kick off, to raise awareness of their nominated charity for the season, Cancer Research Wales.

The Cancer Research Wales pink-a-blue walk took place last Sunday around Cardiff Bay, which helped to raise funds and awareness for breast and prostate cancer, two of the most common cancers affecting men and women in Wales. The charity is currently funding cutting edge research into these two cancers in its laboratories at Velindre Hospital in Cardiff.

There will be a collection for Cancer Research Wales at the match of Friday.

Looking ahead to the match Cardiff Blues front row forward Gethin Jenkins said,“It’s great to have Cancer Research Wales as our chosen charity for the season, they do a lot of good work throughout Wales. The boys have already tried on the pink shirts and we like them.”

“Ulster had a tough season last year so they’ll looking to put things right this year. Our main aim is to win our home games and Friday night’s match we really have to go out and get the result and stamp our mark on the season. To get a draw and a loss is not an ideal start, but Friday is another step in the season.”

“I feel in our last two matches we’ve been getting into good positions in the twenty-two but panicking, and not playing as well as we can under pressure situations. That is something we have to work on and we have to be more clinical.”

“It’s been a tough week for us, a lot of the boys are still a bit battered from Saturday’s match, but that’s no excuse we should have done better against the Ospreys. We will be looking to put things right on Friday.”
