Captain Jevon Groves and the Cardiff Blues squad dedicated Plate glory in the World Club 7s to Owen Williams and insisted: "Everything we achieve is for him".
Blues toppled South African giants the Vodacom Blue Bulls 28-12 to pop the champagne corks at Twickenham as the champions of the Welsh leg of the Premiership Rugby 7s Series secured another piece of pre-season silverware.
Wales Sevens ace Groves paid tribute to his team-mates as they produced an impressive second day performance at Twickenham.
And he was quick after the final whistle to dedicate the victory at the home of English rugby to injured ace Williams.
Jevons said: “Owen is always in our thoughts and in everything we do. We were here to not only play rugby but also spread the word about him and awareness.
“Ows is such a great player, such a great guy and everything we achieve is for him. When we get into Plate finals and play well, the celebrations are all for him.
“I’m proud of what we achieved here,” he added. “We are disappointed that we didn’t go into the Cup semi-finals and onto the final after some close defeats. But we showed a lot of character.
“We bounced back and to win the Plate, particularly in the manner we did, was very impressive. I’m so proud of the younger members of our squad who were terrific.
“The whole set-up, from the management to the conditioners to the players, this weekend has been very professional and that helped us in the latter stages of some of the final games.
“We’re a professional outfit and we have carried ourselves very well this weekend. It’s disappointing that we didn’t go on to win the Cup but we will take the Plate any day.”
