Centre Ben Thomas emphasised the importance of entertaining Cardiff's fans, following last weekend's thrilling derby against the Scarlets.
Despite a challenging start to the game, Thomas believes the team showcased the style of rugby that keeps supporters coming back to watch the Blue and Blacks.
“It wasn't an ideal start against Scarlets, but we are in the entertainment business and that's something we put a big focus on here is making sure we entertain our fans,” said Thomas.
“That's what keeps them coming back and ultimately pays the bills.
“We want to make sure our fans enjoy the experience and if that means playing a pretty exciting brand of rugby then that's what we'll do.”
Thomas acknowledged that the team’s primary focus is always on securing wins, but playing an exciting brand of rugby remains a priority. Reflecting on their previous game against Zebre Parma, Thomas admitted the team veered away from their preferred style.
“The focus on Zebre was probably getting the win, so it was whatever it takes to a certain degree, but we looked back at that game, reviewed it quite hard and realised it wasn't really our brand of rugby.
“It’ll always be a balance that needs to be struck between playing and managing games and I think we probably got it down well on the weekend against Scarlets.”
A key factor in Cardiff’s success last weekend was the dominant performance of the forwards, something Thomas highlighted as pivotal in securing the win.
“The forwards were outstanding on the weekend. They knew that was the challenge going into a derby.
“If we got on top upfront, then we'd go a long way to winning the game and they certainly did that for us.”
With a quick turnaround ahead of their next match, Thomas acknowledged the physical toll of the derby but stressed the team's readiness to perform again against Glasgow Warriors.
“That's the challenge, backing it up and going again with especially the six day turnaround.
“I think there were some sore bodies upfront on Monday morning but we've dusted ourselves off well and we're looking forward to this Friday at the Arms Park.”
Thomas also praised his midfield partners Callum Sheedy and Rey Lee-Lo, noting their growing partnership and experience.
"It’s actually the first time I’ve played with Callum, but we’ve been training together for a while now, and we’re going well,” added Thomas.
“Rey was outstanding again on the weekend. He keeps churning out these performances.
“Between the three of us, I think we've probably gained some experience over the years and I think we're doing well to drive the team around.”
