The Cardiff Rugby Supporters’ Club Annual General Meeting was held in the Top Lounge of the Arms Park club house this week and votes were counted for the Cardiff Blues Player of the Year and Most Improved Player for 2006/07.
Supporters’ Club members voted for the players who had most impressed them over the last season. Votes were cast for a wide range of players – forwards and backs, newcomers and old timers.
The committee are pleased to announce that the Blues Player of the Year is to be awarded to Ben Blair and our congratulations go to him for a great first season at the Arms Park. The runner up was last year’s winner Xavier Rush, and other popular contenders included Martyn Williams, Scott Morgan and Jamie Robinson.
The award for Most Improved Blues Player also attracted a lot of votes for a number of players who had made an impact last season. However, there was a clear winner by some distance and that was second row forward Bradley Davies! The runner up was newcomer Tom James, and other nominees included Nick MacCleod, Rhys Shellard and Scott Roberts.
Bradley was obviously thrilled to have received his award.
“I’m delighted to have won the award and especially as it’s recognition from our fans. I’d like to thank them for their loyal support.”
“I didn’t expect to have as many games as I did last season so I’m obviously pleased with how things have gone, but my aim is to improve even more next season,” said Bradley.
Congratulations to both Ben and Bradley! The SupportersÂ’ Club will be holding an event in the early part of next season to present them with their awards alongside Cardiff RFC Player of the Year Jamie Roberts.
Details of the event will be determined over the summer and announced in the match programmes and on the website as soon as they are available.
