Cardiff Rugby have received another boost after Jacob Beetham pledged his future to Blue and Black.
The full-back had been targeted by clubs outside of Wales but has signed a new contract to remain at Cardiff Arms Park.
Beetham, who came through the club’s regional pathway, has predominantly been utilised at full-back but also has the ability to slot in at centre.
Matt Sherratt was delighted to secure the services of the 22-year-old and believes he will make a significant impact in the capital.
He said: “We are really pleased to keep hold of Jacob. He has all the attributes to become a top quality player and these are the guys we need to build the club around and keep in Wales.
“He has had to show some patience this season but there is no doubt about his potential. He is a great athlete, a superb professional and he brings playmaking ability and versatility to the back line.
“I thought he produced a very assured performance against Racing Metro a couple of weeks ago and he will only continue to grow in our environment.”
Beetham made his first team debut against Toulouse during the 2021-22 season, and has racked up 160 points in 21 games for the Rags.
He missed last season due to a knee injury but returned this campaign and has made seven further first-team appearances.
He added: “I’m really excited to be signing another contract with Cardiff. It’s not only a great club but also the team I have supported since I was a kid.
“i’ve been in the set-up for some time now, coming through the age-grate system and progressing through the academy and into the first team squad.
“i really enjoy training and playing with my mates, while the Arms Park is a special place to play so I’m really happy to be staying.
“There have been some challenges in recent seasons but there is a huge amount of potential for us to do really well in the next few years.
“It is the beginning of a new era as we rebuild and continue to grow and I am really excited to play my part in that.”
