Cardiff Blues go into Sunday’s match against Heineken Cup champions Leinster, 4pm kick off at the Cardiff City Stadium, having won their last five matches in all competitions.

The Blues have recorded some impressive wins in the Cup competitions and David Young knows his team must pick up points in the Magners League if the Blues are to secure Heineken Cup matches next season.

“While our Cup form has been good this season our Magners League form has not been up to standard,” Young said.

“I think with a few games left in the League and important qualification for Heineken Cup at stake every point is important.”

“We certainly need a big performance and need to get the victory as the 3rd place Welsh qualifying place could go to wire.”

“On paper you will see strength of both squads but when you get out on pitch not everything goes to plan but we will see evidence of how both strong sides are on the day.”

No Irish side has beaten the Blues in Cardiff since Leinster did so at the Arms Park in the Magners League on 28 September 2007, however Leinster are unbeaten in their last six games since the 14-30 loss at Newport Gwent Dragons in December.

As well as exciting rugby action on the pitch there is plenty to keep the ladies entertained off it at as the Cardiff blues launch their first Ladies Day at the Cardiff City Stadium. Women’s tickets cost from just £2 for season ticket holder’s guests and £5 for general sales and there’s sure to be a big female contingent at the game.

A string quartet will provide the musical entertainment as female guests enjoy retail and beauty stands from Vale Resort, House of Fraser The Body Shop and manicures and polishes by Coleg Glan Hafren. bmibaby, Vale Resort and New Look are also providing some fantastic prizes for some lucky ladies on the day.

Ladies are encouraged to wear pink to show support for the Cardiff Blues nominated charity, Cancer Research Wales, and to come down early to get their hands on the goodies and freebies from the likes of Spire healthcare, New Look, Ty Nant and John Lewis. As well as Cardiff Blues nail files being given out in the Ladies enclosure.

It’s not just the adults who are catered for either, Fabulous Fairies children’s accessories and jewelry and personalised chocolate bars by Allison Howell will both have stands at the event.

Speaking ahead of Ladies Day, Annabelle Harries Cardiff Blues marketing Executive said;

“It’s been a very exciting event to organise, everyone knows rugby is a male dominated sport but we do have great female fans too. This is a chance for them to get together and for more women to get involved too.

“The fun starts at 2pm and we hope all the ladies get down early to enjoy the fun from the start as there’s so much going on.

“It’s also a great way for us and our fans to help our designated charity, Cancer Research Wales, this is an organisation close to the hearts of many women and the event will be directly supporting the charity.”

David Young added, “It’s great for us to be supporting Cancer Research Wales and brilliant that we can help raise money for it.”

“Being ladies day as well I’m sure the players will want to put a big performance in with so many women in the crowd.”
