Wilson thrilled to make it two from two

21st October 2016

Danny Wilson was delighted to maintain a 100 per cent record in the European Challenge Cup as he turns his attention back to the Guinness PRO12.

After recording four wins from six in their opening league fixtures, the Blues have got back to winning ways with consecutive victories in Europe.

They followed up last week’s bonus-point win over Bristol with a 27-12 triumph over Pau to climb back to the top of Pool Four.

And with a Welsh derby against the Scarlets on the horizon, Wilson was pleased to see his side build momentum and confidence.

He said: “It was pretty pleasing. Our first objective is to win whenever we have a home game, we’ve achieved that and it keeps a little bit of momentum and good feeling behind the crowds coming to the Arms Park.

“There were patches where we played some really good stuff with some new combinations, a number of changes and a few boys having a rest.

“To come out of this European block with two wins from two is really pleasing. We now look forward to a double-header against Bath.

“They are fantastic games, to have Bath here and then go to play them will be outstanding.

“But we now focus on a derby, back in the league and the Scarlets coming here next weekend is another mouth-watering encounter.”

The only disappointment at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park was the Blues failure to push on and secure a bonus-point try.

They spent the final 10 minutes camped on their line before finally conceding at the death and while admitting the bonus-point slipped, Wilson reckons that defensive effort will be more beneficial in the long run.

He added: “I’m slightly disappointed not to get a bonus-point, obviously you take that result but maybe on another on a day in that nine-minute spell defending on our own line you concede a try and go down the other end and score.

“But for us as a group and where we are on our journey to show the guts, the determination, the defensive organisation and commitment for a good nine minutes on our line will stand us in good stead.”
