Head Coach Danny Wilson admitted he was 'very happy' as his Cardiff Blues made it successive bonus point victories by putting Benetton Treviso to the sword in a 56-8 thumping at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
Ellis Jenkins, Josh Navidi, Rey Lee-Lo, Kristian Dacey, Manoa Vosawai, Tom James, Dan Fish and Rhys Patchell all crossed as eight-try Cardiff Blues turned on the style at home.
Coupled with a try bonus point win over Munster Rugby a week earlier, the result sent Wilson’s men up into seventh spot in the Guinness PRO12.
“I’m very happy. It’s great to get a bonus point two weeks on the bounce at home which gives us a little leapfrog up the league. We now have a massive derby coming up against the Scarlets,” said Wilson.
“The first 20 minutes of the game was a little frustrating when it was set piece after set piece, which was exactly what we wanted to avoid as we had picked a team to play a lot of rugby and high tempo.
“We wanted to avoid their scrum as early on it had a little bit of foothold, but I felt we improved massively in that area as the game went on with a very young tighthead prop in Dillon Lewis. That experience will be invaluable to him.
“After that I felt we got going, put tempo into the game, got through phases and I felt we would wear them down. In the last 15 minutes we finished the job with some outstanding tries.
“I am happy with eight tries,” he added. “I wanted a win and a bonus point by scoring four tries. We’ve doubled that and our intent from the start was to score tries.
“We scored two driving lineouts but I would have liked to have seen us going over early. It took us a good few to get over, but it’s a wearing down process against a big and powerful team like Treviso.”
