Danny Wilson insists Cardiff Blues must improve their discipline and game control after Munster scored 26-unanswered second-half points.
The Blues took a deserved 16-13 lead into the interval at Thomond Park, thanks to a Josh Turnbull try and the boot of Jarrod Evans.
But quick-fire tries while Taufa’ao Filise was in the sin-bin proved decisive and the Irish province added two further scores as Cardiff Blues chased the game in vein.
Wilson said: “At half time we were relatively pleased to have the lead away from home in Munster. We had put ourselves in a good position to come out in the second-half but unfortunately we contributed to our own downfall with a yellow card.
“During that period we have conceded 14-points through the card and not getting the ball off the field to relieve pressure – that led to two tries.
“Against a side of that quality, with their Lions back there is only so much you can take before it leads to a score.”
Cardiff Blues have now won just one game from their opening five encounters but with three tough away trips to Ireland completed, Wilson knows it is no time to panic.
And he is now solely focussed on the first Welsh derby of the season against the Dragons on Friday night.
He added: “We have played the three Irish provinces we will play away from home in the first five weeks so it was always going to be tough.
“We got a win in Connacht which was great, at home against Glasgow we’re a kick away from winning, if we had got that it would look very different.
“But it is a tough run and we’ve had to look at the squad and rested a few battered bodies and now we have a short turnaround going into a Welsh derby, which has to be a priority for us.”
