Kristian Dacey has called for Cardiff Blues to be more clinical, following Monday's defeat to Ulster Rugby.
The hooker captained his side at Rodney Parade, but they were forced to settle for a losing bonus point as the boot of John Cooney led the Belfast-based outfit to a narrow victory.
However, he couldn't fault his side's physical effort against the unbeaten Irish province and is confident they can learn from their errors ahead of next week's clash at Edinburgh.
“We knew what was coming and we’d seen how Ulster have played over the opening few games," said Dacey.
“We knew they were going to come with a big, heavy pack and for us it was about fronting up and being physical.
“I thought we brought a lot of that and I’m proud of the way the boys performed out there, but there were aspects of the game where we left ourselves down.
“We defended for 17 minutes at the end of the first half, so you can’t expect to go straight up the other end of the field and score tries.
“When we have got the ball, that’s when we need to be at our best and our most clinical.
“There are a lot of learnings from that game, as there were from Munster. But for us now we have to lick our wounds and move on to Edinburgh."
Academy graduates such as Corey Domachowski, Jamie Hill, Ben Murphy and James Botham have all featured regularly over the first four rounds of Guinness PRO14 action.
Dacey is excited by the young talent within the region and believe the experience of playing in these fixtures will be invaluable for the youngsters.
“We’ve got a lot of good boys coming through now, and where better to breed them than on that pitch,” added the Welsh international.
“These boys are coming in and they have to step up.
“It’s a tough environment to come into but we have a lot of good youngsters who will hopefully pushing for more and more opportunities.”
