We could've beaten the Boks by being more clinical - Adams

International | 8th November 2021

Josh Adams believes Wales showed they were capable of overcoming the world champions, South Africa, on Saturday but need to be more clinical in attack.

Wales were in the lead heading into the final seven minutes of action, but a late Malcolm Marx try and a long range Francois Steyn penalty saw the Springboks surge to victory in a physical affair at Principality Stadium.

Speaking to Prime Video, Cardiff star Adams was proud to see his side go toe-to-toe with the 'Boks but was frustrated to fall away in the final moments.

“I’ve lost to South Africa a couple of times now, and I think the total difference on the scoreboard would only be around nine points,” said the British and Irish Lions.

“South Africa are a very physical side, but I think we were the best side for most of that game.

“But we lost that match in the last 10 minutes, when it turned into a bit more of an arm-wrestle.

“We know what to expect when we face them - a really accurate kicking game, and they managed to do that very well.

“But we’re probably a bit disappointed not to come away with a win.

“The answer for us is to be more clinical as a side. We weren’t clinical enough when it was needed the most.

“We managed to create opportunities to play, but the weather played a role and the ball was up in the air quite a lot.

“If we’re to move on as a side we have to take the chances we’re given.”
