Warburton all set to face Treviso test

22nd March 2016

Head Coach Danny Wilson has revealed flanker Sam Warburton is set for a playing return when Cardiff Blues tackle Benetton Treviso in the Guinness PRO12 at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday evening (kick-off 7.05pm).

Warburton missed the final game of the Six Nations for Wales, but has now recovered and returned to full training after passing all protocols this week ahead of the Italian visit.

However, Wilson revealed USA international Blaine Scully and wing Alex Cuthbert were ruled out of the fixture.

“Warby is back fit and available for selection, which is great news. He has trained well the last couple of days. He is very keen to play,” said Wilson.

“Most of the players who come back from Wales, who were playing extremely well for us before they left, are back in contention.

“Their form has been good for Wales and as long as we can get them up to speed there is no reason not to involve them.

“That is not taking anything away from the boys who have featured while they have been away, we have had some great performances and great wins during this period.

“But it’s a home game and the likes of Sam Warburton are excited about playing again for Cardiff Blues. He wants to play and that is great for us and causes good headaches in terms of selection.

“Blaine (Scully) will be out for a few weeks with hand injury which he picked up in the latter stages of the Munster game,” he added. “Alex Cuthbert will are monitoring and he is currently out with a foot injury.”
