The hard work starts now insists Goodfield

Duane Goodfield insists Cardiff Blues are under no illusions that the hard work starts now, after picking up two wins from their opening two Guinness PRO14 fixtures.

They head out to Limerick for the season’s first Monday Night Rugby clash this evening, facing another unbeaten outfit in Munster.

With the international players away on duty with Wales, the scrum coach hopes to see players continuing to step up and impress as John Mulvihill’s side looking to continue their winning start to the campaign.

“It will be a bit different to be playing on a Monday night, but the boys are in a really good place, especially after winning our two opening games,” said the former hooker.

“There’s been a real excitement in training this week, and we’re looking forward to this one.

“A strong start has been really important for us, especially when you look back at the last few seasons where we might’ve started a bit slower.

“We know that Munster are a strong side, and they still have a strong squad despite the international call-ups to the Ireland squad.

“But we’ve developed our own squad, and that means that boys like James Botham has had an opportunity in recent weeks.

“He’s taken that opportunity with both hands and we also have the likes of Kristian Dacey who can come into the pack as well.

“We’re happy with the start we’ve made, but we’re also fully aware that the hard work begins now.

“We’re fortunate to have boys like Jarrod Evans staying with the squad.

“It’s important that we go out to Ireland and secure the result before coming back for another big week of preparations ahead of Ulster next week. Hopefully we can carry our momentum across the next few fixtures.”
