St Cyres School join Education Programme

12th March 2015

Cardiff Blues are pleased to announce that St Cyres School are the latest establishment to sign up to offer our new and exciting rugby education programme.

The region announced earlier this year plans to roll out a new education programme, in conjunction with TVS Education, aimed at post 16 studies for September 2015.

Radyr Comprehensive School (Cardiff), Tonyrefail (Rhondda Valley) and Aberdare Community School (Cynon Valley) all signed up as Exclusive Official Partner Schools.

And now St Cyres have joined the rugby education programme to offer the course for the Vale of Glamorgan area.

The Cardiff Blues Rugby Education Programme is for Students that will be entering Year 12 in September 2015.

It entails a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport; equivalent to 3 A-Levels, and a Technical Rugby Programme; 8 hours a week of practical rugby coaching delivery, coach education and mentoring, thus enabling students to relate what they are learning through the course to real life practical situations.

The programme also gives students an exclusive opportunity to gain valuable work based learning experience through the Cardiff Blues Community Programme. Students will also play in a 10-a-side intra-regional games competition on a regular basis, all whilst gaining qualifications for University.

The course will provide many positive opportunities and pathways for students to ensure maximum engagement and achievement for students. We aim for the Cardiff Blues brand to engage, retain and ultimately progress all the participants involved in the programme, and offer the opportunity for students to gain a career in the sports industry.

Nadine Griffiths, Blues Community Manager, said: "This is such a really exciting time for us as we form strong relationships with many schools across the region to offer the Rugby Education Programme and we are thrilled that St Cyres have signed up.

“This course is perfect for you if are keen on seeking further education, if you enjoy sport and are looking for a career in the sports industry, from coaching to sports administration and marketing. It's the first course of it's kind to be offered in our region and so it's a fabulous opportunity.

"We have a number of Open Evenings coming up, including one at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, and we are encouraging parents and students to discover more about what we are offering.
