After making the trip to Edinburgh to watch his teammates snatch a slender victory over Edinburgh, Blaine Scully is hoping to be back fit for Saturday's Guinness PRO12 clash with Munster.
The USA Rugby captain was ruled out of last week’s one-point win at Myreside with a lower-leg injury but made the trip north to cheer on the Blues.
He was inspired by what he witnessed in the Scottish capital and is on course to return to action at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
Scully said: “It was awesome to be there and to see the team pull together in the way they did in the last 20 minutes.
“We spoke during the week about how we had had two very different performances in the previous weeks.
“To show the character and heart that they did, and we did collectively, on Friday night demonstrates not only the will to win but how important the game was to us and to each other.
“It was a team effort and the guys that came off the bench were just as important to the guys that played 80 minutes and it was really cool to see.”
Wales’ Capital Region defeated Munster at Irish Independent Park at the beginning of the season and are targeting a first double over the province since the 2007-08 season.
A victory would keep the Blues right in the battle for a top six finish but Scully insists they must keep a steely focus on Saturday alone and play their own game to down one of the PRO12’s form teams.
Scully continued: “The top six is one of our objectives but the biggest thing is focussing on week to week. We have seven fixtures left, including the European quarter-final, and the only way we will get where we want to go is if we focus on the steps along the way.
“Munster is going to be tough. They have one of strongest defences and they are very direct in attack with a big pack and one of the most effective kicking games in the competition as well but that said we have some stuff we’re pretty good at too and we need to express ourselves and play our game on our pitch.
“We have to do what we’re good at, that’s one of the truest things in sport. You have to be true to who you are as a team and a club, that becomes your identity and you can build on that.”
