Josh Navidi insists Cardiff Blues has room for improvement, despite Wales' Capital Region making it two from two in the festive derbies with a Boxing Day win over Dragons.
The back row returned from a hamstring injury he suffered during Wales’ Rugby World Cup quarter final win over France to captain his region to victory over their east Wales rivals.
The Welsh international says his side over-played in the wrong areas against Dean Ryan’s side but insists the result was the priority for his side.
“It was nice to be back out there, especially in a derby, and I was blowing a bit.
“We were just a little bit disappointed with the way that we played. In the first half we controlled the win quite well and defended well.
“But in the second half, we tried to play too much around the half-way line, and that cost us with one of their scores.
“It was good to see the game out but we have a number of things to work on this week to be ready for the Scarlets.
“When we had penalty advantage, we kicked the ball quite early and didn’t keep the foot on the throat.”
Navidi was delighted to return to action for his home region and hopes his side can continue their run of form as they welcome Scarlets to the Arms Park on Friday.
“It was nice to be back out there after being out for a while. I haven’t done too much fitness but I felt alright and lasted around 63 minutes,” said the back row.
“It was nice to be out there with the boys and I haven’t played at the Arms Park since April so it was nice to be back on that pitch.
“We’re four from four in the PRO14 now. We didn’t have the best start to the year but we’ll keep pushing it and take it week-by-week and hopefully we can continue to climb up that ladder.
“The boys have been playing well and playing some good rugby over the last few weeks.
“It’s an enjoyable time of the season. It’s obviously over Christmas so things change a little for us, except for last year where we had a bit of a break.
“You know a lot of the boys that you’re coming up against and I really enjoy this period of the season.”
